Who am I? A woman who loves Jesus, my family, and life.

The people I love:

My wonderful husband of 22 years is a light-hearted, funny, people person. He keeps me from lapsing too far into melancholy seriousness.

My son, the firstborn, has graduated homeschool and now attends college five hours from home. He’s a born leader, smart, funny, loves people, and his guitar is his Siamese twin.

My daughter is the youngest and she got all the domestic genes that her mother is lacking. She’s also a great writer, lover of languages, beautiful singer, and enjoys being the boss of anything.

What I do:

My passion is writing! I truly enjoy writing and helping other writers, whatever their age or stage. I taught writing classes to homeschool students for seven years and now I have a blog to help all writers, Encouraging Words for Writers. 

Thus far, I’ve produced one writing curriculum, Hands-On Essays. You can also find my writing scattered among various other books and publications. In my spare time, I help writers and authors prepare book proposals and write books.

I’m also a speaker. This wasn’t something I ever desired to be, but God thought otherwise. Click to find out more about my speaking.

How Reality Homeschooling came about: 

In my many years of homeschooling, I’ve met a lot of frustrated parents. It seems a lot of us have trouble reconciling what we think homeschooling ought to be with how it actually plays out in our homes. Several years ago I prepared a talk that would help homeschooling families do just that–marry the ideal with the real. I candidly shared about what life was really like in our own home and the response was incredible. Apparently, I struck a nerve.

Reality Homeschooling quickly became my most requested talk so I thought it would be nice to have a place where I can dig deeper on this topic, share more, and continually encourage people day after day. So here we are in the midst of reality.

I hope that by sharing my reality, some wisdom I’ve gleaned through the years, and whatever else comes to mind, you will be greatly encouraged and helped. We’re all in this together!
